Sales Manager — Solar & Renewables | Own the Number, Build the Team
Pay: CA$70,000.00 - CA$90,000.00 per year Job description: Sales Manager — Solar & Renewables | Own the Number, Build the Team Shield Solar · Calgary, AB (with travel across our service territory) Full-time, permanent · Base $70,000–$90,000 + commission + profit sharing · On-target earnings $110,000–$130,000 The short version We're a Medium sized solar installation company doing residential and commercial work across Alberta, and we're growing faster than our sales engine. We need someone to run it — not from behind a dashboard, but as a player-coach who closes our biggest commercial deals personally while building a team of four into something formidable. If you want a sales management job where you inherit a mature process and manage from a spreadsheet, this isn't it. If you want to build the process, carry a bag on the deals that matter, and have your fingerprints on every part of how this company grows — keep reading. Why this role is different You get real authority. Discount authority to a defined margin floor. Final say on which channels get a budget. The power to walk away from bad deals. Bid/no-bid decisions on public tenders. We put decision rights in writing, and yours are substantial. You sell, too. Roughly 40% of your time is personal selling on our largest commercial, agricultural, and public-sector opportunities — including work with municipalities and Indigenous economic development corporations. The other 60% is coaching your team, building channels, and running the pipeline. You'll never be asked to manage something you don't do yourself. The market is on our side. Alberta has the most permissive micro-generation rules in Canada, the fastest solar payback in the country, a federal tax credit driving commercial demand, and a public sector actively tendering renewable work. You're not pushing a rock uphill. You're deciding which of several open doors to walk through first. Your team is small enough to actually develop. Two residential consultants, one commercial account executive, one inside sales & marketing coordinator. Four people. You'll know their pipelines cold, ride along twice a month with each of them, and watch them get measurably better because of you. What you'll own The bookings number — residential and commercial — and the margin quality behind it A personal quota on our top commercial accounts and public-sector pursuits Weekly pipeline reviews, monthly forecasts, and a coverage ratio the operations team can build against The price book, the proposal standard, and the margin floor Our outbound commercial prospecting program and referral partner network (electricians, GCs, roofers, ag dealers) The CRM as a single source of truth — data discipline included The handoff to design and operations, so what we sell is what we can build What we're looking for 5+ years selling solar, HVAC, roofing, or another considered purchase — in-home or B2B — with 2+ years leading a team Fluency in the financial side: payback, IRR, and how a customer's retailer and rate structure change the math A track record of building repeatable process, not just personal heroics The spine to hold a margin floor when both the customer and your own rep are pushing you to fold Valid Alberta driver's licence NABCEP PV Technical Sales certification is a nice-to-have, not a requirement — we'll support you in getting it What you get Base $70,000–$90,000 + commission + profit sharing · On-target earnings $110,000–$130,000 Vehicle allowance and phone Paid training and certification support (NABCEP, industry courses) A seat at the leadership table — you'll work directly with the owner, design lead, and operations manager The chance to shape how a growing company sells, before the concrete sets Who we are Shield Solar is built on a foundation few Alberta solar companies can claim: more than 20 years of hands-on building science experience through our parent company, Shield Restorations Inc., operating as Shield Roofing & Exteriors. What started as a roofing and exterior restoration business has grown into a full-service Alberta home performance partner and solar is the natural extension of everything we've already been doing. Most solar companies see a roof as a mounting surface. We see it as a system one we've designed, built, replaced, and inspected thousands of times across Alberta's harshest climate How to apply Send us your resume and — instead of a cover letter — a short answer to one question: tell us about a deal you walked away from, and why. Benefits: Flexible schedule On-site parking Profit sharing Licence/Certification: Driving Licence (required) Work Location: In person
Office Manager — QuickBooks & Accounting | The Person Who Actually Runs This Place
Pay: CA$70,000.00 - CA$90,000.00 per year Job description: Office Manager — QuickBooks & Accounting | The Person Who Actually Runs This Place Shield Solar · Calgary, AB (in-office) Full-time, permanent · $70,000–$90,000 depending on experience · Monday–Friday, no evenings, no weekends The short version We're a Medium sized solar installation company doing residential and commercial work across Alberta. Our crews are excellent. Our sales team is busy. And the person holding the entire administrative and financial side together — books, payroll, HR files, insurance, WCB, licences, the works — needs to be you. This is not a reception job with a fancy title. It's the operational backbone of a real construction business, and it reports directly to the owner. If you've ever looked at a disorganized office and felt a deep, almost physical need to fix it — and you can run a clean set of books in QuickBooks while you do it — we should talk. Why this role is worth your time You'll see the whole business. Job costing on a $40,000 residential install. Progress billing on a commercial project. Payroll for electricians on apprentice wage progressions. Cash flow on equipment we buy months before the customer pays. This is genuinely interesting accounting — project-based, tangible, and never the same month twice. Your work is visible and it matters. The owner makes decisions off the reports you produce. When your job-costing is clean, we know which projects made money and why. When it isn't, we're flying blind. You will never wonder whether anyone notices what you do. You'll own it end to end. No layers, no committees. You'll have a bookkeeper/payroll administrator and a customer care administrator reporting to you, direct access to our external accountant, and the authority to build the systems the way they should be built. Stability with a growth story. Solar in Alberta is expanding, we're expanding with it, and this seat grows into a controller role as we do. Get in now and the finance function is yours to shape. What you'll own Full-cycle books in QuickBooks: AP/AR, reconciliations, month-end close, and monthly financial statements the owner can act on Job costing and WIP — making sure every cost lands on the right project so we can compare actuals to estimates Payroll oversight: hourly crews, overtime, apprentice rate progressions, sales commissions GST, source deductions, and WCB remittances; year-end coordination with our external accountant Cash-flow tracking and AR collections (politely relentless is the tone we're after) HR administration: onboarding, employment records, benefits, and certification/training tracking for our field team Insurance, licences, and safety program documentation — the paperwork that keeps a contractor legal Managing two direct reports and the day-to-day rhythm of the office What we're looking for 5+ years of full-cycle bookkeeping or accounting, with real QuickBooks depth (QBO or Desktop —) Formal accounting training: a diploma, certificate, or CPA-track coursework Payroll experience for 15+ employees; Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is a genuine asset Construction, trades, or other project-based industry experience strongly preferred — you should know what job costing is and care about it The organizational temperament of someone who finds an unreconciled account personally offensive Discretion — you'll handle wages, personnel files, and the company's numbers What you get $70,000–$90,000 base, reviewed annually Predictable hours: this is a Monday-to-Friday, in-office role with month-end peaks and no on-call A leadership seat in a company small enough that your opinion changes things Who we are Shield Solar is built on a foundation few Alberta solar companies can claim: more than 20 years of hands-on building science experience through our parent company, Shield Restorations Inc., operating as Shield Roofing & Exteriors. What started as a roofing and exterior restoration business has grown into a full-service Alberta home performance partner and solar is the natural extension of everything we've already been doing. Most solar companies see a roof as a mounting surface. We see it as a system one we've designed, built, replaced, and inspected thousands of times across Alberta's harshest climate How to apply Send your resume and — instead of a cover letter — a short answer to one question: describe a mess you inherited (books, filing system, process, anything) and how you fixed it. Benefits: Flexible schedule On-site parking Experience: QuickBooks: 5 years (preferred) Licence/Certification: Certified Bookkeeper (preferred) Chartered Professional Accountant (preferred) Work Location: In person
